From Global PT Connect to PT Day of Service

Hello All,

We thank you for following the Global PT Connect section this past year. Many thanks to the wonderful clinicians and students that have shared stories of their interactions in their communities around the corner and around the world. Our '3 Questions feature has given us a glimpse into the heart of the profession by asking leaders of various experiences the glaring questions of: what do you love about Physical Therapy, what do you hope for the future of it, and how can we all do our part to achieve it? The answers were incisive, informative and challenging for and to us. The stories read, and the anecdotes heard have been inspiring. These features and story types will continue to be a big part of PT Haven.

I have had the pleasure to travel around the world over this past year. It was east I went, and what the rising sun has shown me has been a delight. Experiences had, people met, and lessons learned. I was reminded of the warmth of a genuine and welcoming smile, the awesome feeling of nurturing hospitality from a host in their own land, and the power of touch. Also I was reminded that kindness and love even in incremental moments can change a life - it can change the world. These are some of the things that I learned and there are many lessons that are still finding there way to my heart and my mind. I continue to feel honored to be in our profession of Physical Therapy. Using our hands and our words to connect with others in trying to achieve their full potential is a journey for the healer and the healed that yields growth and grace on both sides. I look forward to sharing things in a fuller and more detailed article in September. Full with anecdotes and pictures: please stay tuned.

A moment on the trip that sticks out is from my time spent on the Amazon River. This past February an idea struck me in full force, an idea that has now been turned into an initiative by a passionate team from across the country. (Click here to read full origin story). The idea of creating a Physical Therapy Day of Service (PTDOS), in which we ask ourselves to show the best in us in a way that positively affects our communities, has been catching momentum and we are excited to see where it goes. We are excited in taking the challenge of turning compassion into galvanized and globalized action. Together. As a Profession.

We hope that you all accept the challenge of participating in the initiative of PTDOS, as well as sharing it with others in your circle.

A section of the site will now be promoting the initiative and sharing more moments by wonderful people doing wonderful things around the world. We thank you for continuing to make us a part of your Physical Therapy experience and we are honored that this is a place that we get to share each other's stories.
